Susan Awuor Oyieke

Biography

Susan Awuor Oyieke is an Interior Designer and Exhibition Specialist with over fifteen years of professional experience in museum practice, exhibition development, and design-led interpretation. She holds a Master of Science in International Business and Management in Design from the University of Salford and a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design from the University of Nairobi. She has also undertaken additional training in architecture and competency-based education. Her interdisciplinary academic background enables her to integrate design thinking, project management, and research-driven methodologies within the cultural heritage sector.

Susan currently serves at the National Museums of Kenya, where she has led and contributed to the design, development, and delivery of numerous permanent and temporary exhibitions of national significance. Her portfolio includes landmark institutional projects such as the Presidential Library and Museum, the National Art Gallery, the Thimlich Ohinga Cultural Site, and a wide range of thematic exhibitions that engage diverse audiences through innovative storytelling, interpretation, and spatial design.

Her expertise spans exhibition and spatial design, interpretive planning, research and content development, stakeholder engagement, and sustainable design practices, positioning her as a multidisciplinary practitioner in contemporary museology. Her work focuses on creating meaningful visitor experiences that connect cultural heritage with contemporary audiences through thoughtful, research-informed design.

Susan is currently leading and contributing to several major cultural heritage initiatives, including the development of the Birds Gallery of Kenya, where she oversees exhibition interpretation and enhancement; the Raila Amolo Odinga Museum and Mausoleum; the renovation and reinterpretation of the Karen Blixen Museum; and the Mwai Kibaki Mausoleum, where she contributes to shaping the project's narrative, exhibition design, and visitor experience. Through these projects, she continues to advance innovative exhibition practices while contributing to the preservation, interpretation, and promotion of Kenya's rich cultural heritage.
