Alsu Akhmetzyanova

Biography

I work at the intersection of international cultural exchange, museum collaboration, and contemporary art as an independent curator and cultural manager based in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. My practice focuses on building connections between regional art infrastructures and international institutions, while expanding the visibility and career mobility of artists from Central Asia, particularly those from underrepresented regions such as Karakalpakstan.

I began my career at the Art and Culture Development Foundation of Uzbekistan, where I contributed to major international cultural projects, including Uzbekistan’s first national participation in the Venice Architecture Biennale. I also developed and coordinated educational and professional exchange programmes with institutions including Tate, the British Museum, and the Goethe-Institute to support capacity building among Uzbek museum professionals.

In 2019, I was selected as a Fellow of the British Museum’s International Training Programme. In 2026, I participated in the ITP+ Global Engagement and Cultural Diplomacy Programme, which explored the role of museums in cross-cultural collaboration, ethical global engagement, and international cooperation.

Most recently, I served as Assistant Curator for the Uzbekistan Pavilion at the London Design Biennale 2025, contributing to institutional coordination, curatorial research, and exhibition narratives connecting Uzbekistan’s craft traditions and cultural memory with contemporary design.

Currently, as Art Manager at Regeneration Art Gallery in Tashkent, I support Karakalpakstani artists through portfolio development, international applications, museum collaborations, and residency programmes.

Through my curatorial practice, I aim to strengthen the visibility of Central Asian artists within international exhibition contexts and foster long-term institutional relationships between the region and global museum networks.
