The Art of Social Change Podcast, hosted by artist Gabriela Salomon and curator Alix de la Chapelle, has just released a compelling new episode featuring renowned artist and UCLA professor Andrea Fraser. This conversation was recorded in collaboration with CIMAM in the context of its 56th Annual Conference in Los Angeles (2024), title Sustainable Futures: Who? When? For Whom?, where Fraser participated in the Day 2 session, Economies of Sustainability: Ethics, Values and Resilience.

Since the 1980s, Andrea Fraser has developed a sharp, critical body of work through performance, video, and installation, investigating the social, financial, and affective economies of cultural institutions, fields, and groups.

In this episode, Fraser reflects on the ambivalent relationship artists and cultural workers maintain with institutions, drawing from her legendary performances and her recent work on promoting reform and transparency within museum boards. The conversation offers deep insights into how art can be a tool for critical reflection, and also for systemic change.
