CIMAM Stands in Solisarity with Colombia

CIMAM, the International Committee for Museums and Collections of Modern Art, expresses its deepest solidarity with the people of Colombia following the devastating earthquake of 10 August 2026, centred near San José del Palmar in Chocó, which caused loss of life, displacement, and widespread damage across the departments of Risaralda, Valle del Cauca, its capital Cali, Chocó, and Caldas.

Our thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones, those still awaiting news of family and friends, and the many communities facing the immediate and longer-term consequences of this humanitarian emergency.

As an international community of museums and contemporary art professionals, CIMAM stands alongside its Colombian members and the wider cultural community.

We acknowledge the efforts of local communities, rescue workers, healthcare professionals, volunteers, and international organizations who continue to support search, rescue, relief, and recovery efforts under extremely difficult circumstances. More than ever, we believe in the importance of international solidarity and empathy, and in supporting local communities through the processes of grief, recovery, and reconstruction.

Our members in Colombia have shared these initial reliable resources and sources of support. We will keep this space active and updated as further verified information, support networks, humanitarian organisations, and initiatives assisting affected communities are shared with us.
