CIMAM New Members - August 2026
CIMAM welcomes a new group of members to its international community. Based in institutions and independent practices across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas, they include museum co-directors, collection directors, curators, writers, researchers, and professors of art theory. Their work ranges from building future museums and stewarding major collections to decolonial scholarship, research-driven curating, archival practice, and emerging digital practices, adding new depth to the exchange of knowledge across CIMAM's global network.
Ana Balona de Oliveira is Assistant Researcher at the Institute for Art History of NOVA University of Lisbon, where she coordinates the Contemporary Art Studies research group, and an independent curator. Her scholarly and curatorial practice focuses on art from Portuguese-speaking African countries and their diasporas, approached from decolonial, comparative, and intersectional feminist perspectives. She holds a PhD in History of Art from The Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London, and was awarded a FLAD Visiting Professorship at Brown University in 2025. She has curated exhibitions in Lisbon, London, Guimarães, and Luanda with artists including Ângela Ferreira, Edson Chagas, and António Ole, and is preparing a forthcoming exhibition by Euridice Kala at the MNAC National Museum of Contemporary Art in Lisbon.
Rana Anani is a writer and curator based in London, working closely with the Museum of Contemporary Art in Ljubljana, the Palestinian Museum, and the Institute for Palestine Studies, where she is a fellow. Her practice centers on art history, contemporary art, and visual memory, with a particular focus on Palestinian art and archives. She previously served as Head of PR and Communication at the Palestinian Museum, where she founded the Family Album Archives, and held curatorial roles at the Al-Ma'mal Art Foundation in Jerusalem and the Sharjah Art Foundation. Recent work includes curating Control Anatomy, a solo exhibition by Mahmoud Al Haj (2024), and writing and editing Darb Al-Goul, artist Sliman Mansour's forthcoming memoir for the Institute for Palestine Studies.
Aayati Sengupta is Research Curator in the Exhibitions team at the Museum of Art & Photography (MAP) in Bengaluru, India, where she has worked since 2024, having previously held roles in the museum's Marketing & Communications department. She holds an MA in Comparative Literature from the English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad. Her curatorial work includes the digital exhibition Fractured, but whole: Selected works of Bouke de Vries for MAP's Gallery-on-demand, and she is currently developing two upcoming exhibitions. Alongside her museum practice, she is a practising artist exploring interdisciplinary work through words, sound, and music.
Nina Möntmann is Professor and Chair of Art Theory at the University of Cologne. Her research and curatorial work address the decentring of art institutions, decolonial perspectives on instituting and curating, and the role of art institutions in a postmigrant society. She was previously Professor of Art Theory and the History of Ideas at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm and Curator at the Nordic Institute for Contemporary Art (NIFCA) in Helsinki. She is the author of Decentring the Museum: Contemporary Art Institutions and Colonial Legacies (Lund Humphries, 2023), winner of a CHOICE Outstanding Academic Title Award, and is Principal Investigator at the Global South Studies Centre at the University of Cologne.
Caroline Hancock is Deputy Director of Curatorial Affairs and Senior Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Art Mill Museum, the future museum of international modern and contemporary art developed by Qatar Museums in Doha. An art historian, curator, and writer, she previously held curatorial positions at the Centre Pompidou, Tate Modern, the Hayward Gallery, and the Irish Museum of Modern Art, and worked for a decade as an independent curator on projects across Europe, Asia, and Africa. Recent projects include Beyti Beytak, the Qatar Pavilion at the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale, and Manzar: Art and Architecture from Pakistan 1940s to Today (National Museum, Doha, 2024), whose accompanying publication she co-edited.
Kyle Stephan is the Steven and Lisa Munster Tananbaum Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at The Block Museum of Art, Northwestern University. Her expertise encompasses twentieth- and twenty-first-century art of the Americas and the history of media, including photography, film, video, sound, and new media art. She holds a PhD in Art History from Stanford University and was previously Nam June Paik Postdoctoral Curatorial Fellow and Consulting Curator at the Harvard Art Museums, alongside independent curatorial projects at institutions including the São Paulo Museum of Modern Art, MOCA Los Angeles, and the Hayward Gallery. She is organizing curator of the forthcoming traveling exhibition Theresa Hak Kyung Cha: Multiple Offerings (2027-2028).
Tasnim Baghdadi is Co-Director Museum (Programmes) at the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst in Zurich, where she is part of the museum's collective leadership, responsible for programmes, institutional strategy, and local and international partnerships. Her curatorial practice focuses on transdisciplinary exhibition-making, time-based and public projects, and discursive formats at the intersection of contemporary art and society. She previously served as Deputy Head of Art Education at the Fondation Beyeler. Recent projects include Fabian Saul: This Is How The Light Remembers (2025) and the co-curated exhibition Accumulation: on growth, collecting and excess (2025), and she is editorial lead of the publication accompanying Disobedience Archive (Canopy for Broken Time) (2026).
Marlena Chybowska Butler has been Curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art, a department of the National Museum in Szczecin, Poland, since 2005, dedicating her career to bridging the artistic landscape of the Baltic region with global contemporary discourse. She is President of the Zachęta Contemporary Art Association in Szczecin, co-founder of the Mare Articum Foundation, and leads the Curatorial Laboratory at the Academy of Art in Szczecin. She holds MAs in Art History and Sociology and a postgraduate certificate in Museology. Recent projects include Roman Lipski: Quantum Babylon (2025), an immersive exhibition utilizing quantum computing technology, and the Duos Festival (2021-2024), a series of Polish-Kenyan artistic exchanges.
Grazia Quaroni is an Italian art historian, critic, and curator based in Paris, and Director of the Collection at the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain, where she has worked since 1991 on more than forty exhibition projects. As curator in charge of all collection exhibitions worldwide, she has led recent presentations in Seoul, Buenos Aires, Shanghai, Milan, and Paris, and served as Executive Director of the Triennale Milano/Fondation Cartier cultural partnership from 2019 to 2025. She has also contributed to the artistic programming of the Cité de la Musique in Paris and the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona, and taught as Associate Professor at Paris-Sorbonne University and Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi.
