“CIMAM is a global leader in coalition building across different registers of practices and art institutions. It invites its members to collectivize ideas, share knowledge, analyze challenges, and learn from each other. Various working groups, a wonderful team, and the annual assembly facilitates professional exchange".

Doreen Mende, Director of the Cross-Collections Research Department at Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, and Co-Founder of the Harun Farocki Institut, Berlin, Germany.

"It is nourishing to be a member of CIMAM that allows to contribute to such a coalition across generations and geographies in the visual arts. It allows us to imagine possible internationalisms through the means of art, research, and exhibition-making in the 21st century”.

About Doreen

Doreen Mende is a curator, academic, and writer with a focus on the geopolitics of exhibiting in the afterlives of the global Cold War. Her approach is informed by researching archives of socialist modernities of the global East in Europe in relation to diasporic post-communist societies of the Middle East, West-Africa, and South-East Asia. Her particular concern addresses continuities of colonial infrastructures and the legacies of decolonization and anti-fascism, and thus, investigates the entanglement of the postcolonial constellation with the post-communist condition for world-systems of the present. She is currently concluding her monograph In Transit. Geopolitics of Exhibiting.
