Welcome to CIMAM to Andrea Lerda!

Andrea Lerda

"For more than fifteen years I have focused my curatorial practice on environmental issues - investigating the role of Art in conveying a new sustainable thought and privileging the interdisciplinary approach art-science - and exploring the role of art within community and society. Over the years I have collaborated with researchers from internationally renowned universities and scientific institutes since I deeply believe in the necessity of the union of different voices, positions and ways of thinking. The era we are living in, in which environmental, cultural, political, and socioeconomic issues impose a constant reinterpretation of the role of the museum and cultural institutions, especially those with a contemporary vocation, solicits a dynamic of constant participation and confrontation between the actors of the art system within a forum with a global outlook".

Andrea Lerda, Curator, Museo Nazionale della Montagna, Turin, Italy.

"Because of my profound and authentic mission as a curator attentive to ecological problematics, and the need to rediscover and rebuild a sense of community and collectivity through the projects I carry out, I aim to confront myself and cooperate with other colleagues who pursue the same goal in CIMAM, and to be part of a debate on issues of common interest among museums, non-profit collections and artists.
Co-creating, co-producing and sharing are vital actions for the art system and - as Andràs Szàntó said - for ‘The Future of the Museum’. Professionals in the field of contemporary art are fundamental interlocutors between the real and the possible. I believe this possibility would enrich my ability to act within my role as a curator, meeting new visions, feeling new sensibilities, understanding new problems, sharing new opportunities, adding a small contribution to a larger debate.
We are all invited to rethink the future of Museums, to reinvent their possibility to be with people, to improve their power, role and destination, but also to find new ways to connect art, artists and communities".

About Andrea

Andrea began curating at Museo Nazionale della Montagna in Turin, Italy in 2018. Apart from overseeing the museum's contemporary art program and sustainability program, he's also curator at Associazione Art.ur in Cuneo.
He regularly curates projects for public and private institutions in Italy and abroad, always trying to find new ways of interpreting issues and sensitivities of our time; involving the public; raising ecological awareness; dialoguing with the public space; reinterpreting the role of a museum institution, its physical and cultural boundaries.

Previously he acted as the Organizational Manager of the PER4M at Artissima International Art Fair (2015-2016), he was director at Franco Soffiantino Gallery in Turin and Studio La Città in Verona. He also collaborated with Lia Rumma Gallery in Milan and the CeSAC - Centro Sperimentale per le Arti Contemporanee in Caraglio.
