Treasures from around the world nestled in an intimate museum with international appeal

Located in the heart of Geneva’s Old Town, the Musée Barbier-Mueller houses a collection of objets d’art of extraordinary variety that it preserves, exhibits and studies. The collection now comprises several thousands of works from antiquity to the present day, tracing more than 5000 years of art from around the world with objects from every continent.

Twice a year, the Musée Barbier-Mueller presents temporary exhibitions and new hangings of its permanent collection. These presentations are devised from a transcultural and contemporary perspective that interweave different eras and territories in order to engage in an ongoing dialogue with contemporary art and the most pressing issues of our time,

The Musée Barbier-Mueller regularly invites contemporary artists to reflect on pieces of the collection and to rethink the design of the exhibition spaces, thus constantly renewing our experience and our understanding of the works on display. Lectures, meetings, readings, workshops and performances engage a broad audience and specifically younger generations, encouraging creativity and learning through interactive activities. These activities reflect the museum’s commitment to accessibility, education, and cultural outreach. It offers a renewed museum experience which is as engaging intellectually as aesthetically stimulating and sensorially evocative.
