About MIT List Center for Visual Arts
Since 1985, the List Center has presented notable and renowned guest artists, curators, and scholars in a broad range of special public forums that engage in contemporary art and ideas. The List Center is committed to artist-centered and boundary-pushing programs.
Comprising over 3,500 pieces, the Permanent Collection is designed to enhance the visual environment, increase aesthetic appreciation among the MIT community and the public, and support teaching and research in the visual arts.
The List also oversees a Percent for Art Program, a campus-wide public art initiative with over 60 site-specific works in public settings. The most recent projects include new sculptures by Sanford Biggers, Agnieska Kurant, and Julian Charrière. Finally, the List administers a Student Loan Art Program, which lends over 700 works of art (mostly framed works on paper by contemporary artists) to students. The major focus of the Permanent Collection continues to be on significant contemporary and experimental artworks.
