About Continuing Education Platform

CIMAM2025-Day01-OGR-ph-Perottino-191

Modern and contemporary art museums play a vital role in fostering critical thinking, generating knowledge, and creating spaces for dialogue and experimentation. As an international network of museum professionals, CIMAM extends these exchanges beyond individual institutions, connecting diverse perspectives, experiences, and practices from around the world.

CIMAM's Continuous Education Platform provides a space for critical dialogue, peer-to-peer learning, and knowledge exchange, enabling museum professionals to reflect on shared challenges, learn from one another, and explore new approaches to museum practice.

Originally launched in May 2020 as the Rapid Response Webinars during the COVID-19 pandemic, the initiative has evolved from an immediate response to a global crisis into an ongoing forum for professional exchange and reflection on the ethical, social, environmental, and institutional challenges facing modern and contemporary art museums.

From 2027, the platform brings together Continuing Education Webinars, CIMAM Papers, and CIMAM Dialogue Podcasts, offering complementary formats for learning, critical reflection, and the exchange of knowledge and experiences across CIMAM's international network.

Through this collective learning approach, CIMAM strengthens connections between museum professionals worldwide, ensuring that knowledge and experiences generated across its network continue to circulate, inform, and enrich museum practice.

Webinars:

At the heart of the platform, CIMAM's Continuing Education Webinars follow an annual program addressing key issues and emerging debates in contemporary museum practice.

Each webinar brings together three invited museum professionals and experts from different continents to share their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives in a peer-to-peer discussion moderated by a member of the CIMAM Board, fostering cross-cultural dialogue, international exchange, and solidarity across the museum sector.

The series encourages critical reflection, professional exchange, and collective learning, connecting diverse institutional and geographical perspectives within CIMAM's global network.

  • Access and Participation
    • The webinars are free for CIMAM members, while non-members may participate for a €10 registration fee, deductible from their CIMAM membership fee if they join within three months.
    • Recordings of all sessions are available exclusively to members through the Members Only section of the CIMAM website, providing continued access to a growing archive of professional knowledge, discussions, and institutional practices.

Papers:

As part of CIMAM’s Continuous Education Platform, CIMAM Papers is a digital publication series dedicated to critical reflection, research, and knowledge exchange within the international modern and contemporary art museum community.

Drawing on the expertise and experiences of museum professionals worldwide, the series brings together diverse perspectives on the ethical, social, political, environmental, and institutional challenges shaping museum practice. Through contributions that respond to the questions, concerns, and transformations experienced across CIMAM’s international community, the series aims to circulate ideas, stimulate critical dialogue, foster new professional connections, and strengthen CIMAM’s role as a global platform for knowledge exchange and continuing professional development.

  • The series combines commissioned contributions with an open call for CIMAM members, inviting museum professionals to share their research, reflections, and experiences.

Podcast:

The CIMAM Podcasts, In Our Own Voice, are part of a family of tools developed by CIMAM to support the continuing education, intellectual exchange, and professional development of those working in the field of contemporary art. Together with the CIMAM Webinars and CIMAM Papers, the podcast series contributes to a shared space for learning, reflection, and the circulation of ideas, personal views, and testimonies across institutions, practices, and geographical contexts.

Being part of CIMAM means engaging in a global community where knowledge is shared, perspectives are challenged, and collective learning contributes to the ongoing development of museum practice.
