CIMAM endorses ICOM's Statement on the Protection of Cultural Heritage
CIMAM – the International Committee for Museums and Collections of Modern Art, an Affiliated Organization of ICOM – fully endorses and shares the following statement issued by the ICOM Executive Board during its meeting held in Paris on 27 June 2025.
Emma Nardi, President of CIMAM, shares the following message:
In recent months in many parts of the world, we unfortunately have witnessed war and violence. These crises devastate families, destroy homes, and threaten the cultural heritage that communities have built and cared for over generations. I have seen with growing concern how museums and the communities they serve are caught in the crossfire of conflict. As highlighted in our recent statements on threats to museums, cultural heritage is once again at risk. These moments remind us of the urgent need for solidarity, clarity of purpose, and global cooperation.
It is in light of current global events that I share the following statement adopted by the Executive Board, during our meeting in Paris on 27 June 2025.
The ICOM Executive Board reaffirms ICOM’s mission to preserve cultural heritage globally and unite the museum community. ICOM is deeply committed to empowering museums as a strong voice in fostering mutual understanding.
Museums connect and protect, without borders.
We advocate for peace for a better future.
In this context, CIMAM joins ICOM President Emma Nardi in sharing the official statement adopted by the ICOM Executive Board on 27 June 2025.
