"I see CIMAM as an important platform for practitioners from all over the world to come together to jointly reflect and discuss how to operate as contemporary art institutions today. How, for example, do we implement the values we project to the outside world and to our publics, into the way we work within our organizations, in our teamwork and into the conditions under which we pursue our goals?".

Yasmin Naderi Afschar, Interim Director Kunsthalle Mainz, Mainz, Germany.

"Especially in a time of global crisis, a time when institutions face uncertainty and pressure, it seems to me more important than ever to consciously learn from each other and to grow networks of solidarity in order to re-negotiate the responsibilities and functions of art, artists and their support structures in society. I would be delighted to be part of and contribute to the growing network of CIMAM which advocates these goals ".

About Yasmin

Yasmin Naderi Afschar is an Iranian-born curator based in Zurich, Switzerland and Mainz, Germany. She is currently Interim Director of Kunsthalle Mainz and mediator for Nouveaux Commanditaires Suisse, an initiative seeking to place contemporary art in a renewed democratic perspective through citizen-commissioned art projects. As part of a collective of curators she co-organizes LE FOYER – In Process, a nomadic talk series focusing on artistic processes. In 2021 Afschar won Asia Society Switzerland’s first Curator Residency at Tai Kwun Contemporary in Hong Kong. Before, she served as the curator of Aargauer Kunsthaus in Aarau, Switzerland from 2018 to 2021. Afschar’s curatorial projects explore formats that multiply perspectives and stimulate connections to one’s own reality. With projects like Nouveaux Commanditaires she works at the intersection of institutions and the public realm, promoting contemporary art’s role in processes of democratization and social transformation. Her curatorial interests focus on questions of identity, on counter-narratives, and forgotten figures.
